Waiting for the First Vote

It's 11:41 Friday morning, and we are gearing up for the first vote. My sister, who is down as an alternate, is at this moment standing in line to be made a delegate. (She was in line for 5 1/2 hours. Ask me how happy she was about that.) That makes three from my family -- and we are all for Gerard Kennedy. OK, so you want to know why? If you want his "Stuff", go to his website. www.gerardkennedy.ca (sorry, luddite, can't make that link), but the reason I'm behind him is because he is has principles, he has integrity, and he is a passionate man. He loves this country and he wants what is best for it. For us. And it comes out when he speaks. He isn't just going for the win over the Conservatives in the next election. He has long term goals for this country. And he understands that it is up to all of us to make this happen. THAT is the single thing that appeals to me the most. Him believing that we all will make a difference. This is such a different message than I am used to, provinicially. We get a pat on the head, and are told not to worry about it -- the government will handle it for us. We get no information, past the newspapers. We are just supposed to trust what they say, and go along. I've seen where that road takes us. And it's not good.

This is why I'm behind Kennedy. He expects all of us to be as involved in the building of the next steps for this country as he will be. He knows we can do it. That is so refreshing. That is so liberating. I actually feel like this is possible, and I swear this is probably the first time I've felt this. Coming from a one party province will do that.

I'm behind Kennedy because he gives me hope for the future.
