It is done

TADAAA!

I've finally finished the rewrite of "Seeing the Light." Don't know how happy I am with it -- other than it's as done as I can make it right now. I was inspired by a friend who put in some 3 Day Novel Contest hours and did an extensive rewrite in (basically) 3 days. I looked at what I had left, realized I was screwing the pooch, and dug in. There are still a couple of Post it notes hanging on my computer (issues I'd found that I didn't take care of) but I'll leave them there until after I get it back from my first round of readers. Just glad it's out of my house.

The thing I don't know if I'm happy with was changing this novel in order to make it potentially more marketable. Originally it was a murder mystery from the dead guy's POV -- but people who read murder mysteries weren't so taken with the dead guy. So I decided to change it to a paranormal chick lit sort of thing. Mystery's still there, but buried behind worrying about going on dates and such (This would be a different character -- not the dead guy. He really doesn't give a rat's ass about most of this stuff anymore.) I hope it works. But I'm afraid I lost something by doing this to it. I'm hoping I'm just tired.

I now face that job that all people with dogs face at the end on a long winter -- cleaning up the back yard. Holy crow. More poop than dog! I didn't think he had it in him! Well, I guess he doesn't, anymore. Hence my problem. Ah well, I have rubber gloves, and I'm just so happy to be out in weather that doesn't rip my face off, I don't even mind this job. (Talk to me in a couple of days. My reaction will probably be a little different.)

Just about everything's in place for the upcoming Get Publishing Conference. (I am on the organizing committee.) It's a good line up, go to www.getpublishing.ca (OK, am stupid and still can't figure out how to link here, but I think the link to this website is on my blog somewhere) and check it out. And if you're in the area, sign up! It'll be a good one.

Sorry, this isn't very inspired today, but I'm still tired. Rewriting took it out of me. No creativity left -- good thing I'm dealing with laundry, dog poop and cat hair. don't have much left for anything else.

Oh, did a neat thing last weekend. Went to the Edmonton Art Gallery (it's being torn down as we speak) for a look at the last official exibit in there -- the Free For All. It was great! They opened the gallery to anyone who wanted to see their work up on the walls. Thought they'd get about 500 pieces, and ended up with 2800! It was floor to ceiling art -- some good, some bad, and some just ugly. What an amazing thing to see. I hope they do it again, in the new building. (I doubt it though. Wouldnn't want anything happening that's -- gasp -- popular. (This is a shot, because I was shocked when I saw the hours for the building. 9-5 during the week. Actually open on weekends, which was good of them, but 9 to 5 during the week? Didn't they want people to show up?) Anyhow, here are a couple of photos, just to give you an idea of the scope. it was truly amazing.

I wish these pictures actually did justice to the sheer scope, but they don't. There were two levels, and a number of extra rooms -- and they were all fillled to capacity with art. You can only see what was hung on the walls here, but there was a bunch of free standing stuff too. Absolutely amazing. THIS is what Edmontonians do during these long winters! We create art! Who knew???

Hey Lady, Glad to hear you finished and got it our there. Good for you.

Two weeks off sounds like a good time frame, only make sure you spend a few days just relaxing too. It's all fine to do house work now, but you're going to need some 'me' time eventually.

Hope your doing well regardless. And again congrats on finishing!
