Actually, I do. It's a miserable amount -- probably around 3500 words all told since the last time I posted. Blast it. However, have made some headway in the short story department. Remember way back a million years ago when I went to the workshop in Banff, and was told, quite succinctly, that if I wanted to be a published writer, I'd better get some short stories done and out and published? Remember? Well, finally, I'm working on some.
Found out last week I didn't win the 3 day -- didn't even make the short list, boo hoo -- and so tore my favourite chapter out and rewrote it as a short story. I think it works quite well. It's time to send it out, I think. My daughter called it weird, several times. Since that was what I was going for, I was pleased. Other reviews were more glowing. So, out the door it goes.
Also started one that I'd been thinking about while in Banff. Has to do with cultural differences, and language. That sounds pretty boring, doesn't it? It's actually quite funny. Will finish it ASAP, and get it out of here, too. Then that's two more pieces in the mix.
Still no word on Manhood Road. Getting hard to type with fingers continually crossed, but whatever.
Am getting excited. A couple of people who I became friends with while at Banff are coming to spend the weekend here. We are going to talk writing the whole weekend. How cool is that? Now, if I can just get the construction material out of the basement -- or at the very least, hide it, all will be well.
Saw Children of Men a couple of nights ago. If you haven't yet -- go see it! It was great. Great. I felt like I'd been run over by a Mac truck after, but it was the best movie I've seen in a long while. Sorry, nothing goes in here -- I don't want to spoil it for anyone. Just go see it. The only thing I will say is I LOVED the hero. Never picked up a gun to "fix" his problems, and ALWAYS had inadequate footwear. A man after my own heart. And one other thing. Can anyone answer this question? What was the deal with the animals? Was this an unfinished storyline, some religious reference I missed, or what? Call me thick, but I didn't get it.
Anyhow, back to the work. And with any luck, a better word count next time.
