Bet you thought I bailed, didn't you? Nope. Just been busy with (drumroll please) my new website. I'm adding it as a link, so you can go see it. it's pretty cool, and was as easy as pie to develop. If you've been thinking of doing your own website, but don't have the time or inclination to actually learn how to do it, go to Heads Down. They have what you need, and they treat you very gently. Link will be provided for that as well. (And thanks again, Ryan. You are the best!)
Writing has been slowish. That sounds a bit odd, but I've been trying to work on two novels at the same time -- yeah, let's keep the place hopping, why not? -- and recently realized it was a bad experiment.
I'm reworking Seeing the Light -- getting it up to snuff to send it out again. Yeah, I know, I said I was just going to "shoot it back out" and I did, and it is getting the bad kind of rejections, so... back to work on it. I am also working on Virago.
I was trying the old "write new words in the morning and old words at night" scenario -- and didn't feel like I was making much headway on either one. So, I decided to devote 10 days to Seeing, to see if I can make it pretty enough to send out. Sounds great, but it's going slower than I thought it would -- gee what a surprise, all of this stuff takes longer than I thought it would-- and I think it may take quite a few more days than I originally intended. But I'm going to keep plugging away -- because the story is finally becoming Marie's.
That's really the story I'm telling, and with a little work, she will be more interesting that Farley. (And less grating to many of the readers. Don't know what it is about him that puts people off. I love the guy, but 50 % of the people who read any of Seeing the Light the way it is now mentions Farley, and not in a good way.) My hat is still off to Farley, though. Without him, there wouldn't have been a story. However, and this gets down to the nuts and bolts of things, some of the chapters need to be redone in Marie's voice. And so I'm fighting Farley -- who is fairly strong. So, writing's been slowish.
It doesn't help that I keep going and playing with my website. Oh, and I got a paying gig -- one so close to my new profession that I felt comfortable taking it. I'm critiquing a novel. How cool is that? First read's done, and it was easy. This woman writes wonderfully, which takes all the pressure off me to be tactful while ripping and tearing. Because I don't have to rip and tear! Yahoo! Gentle buffing, I believe. Gotta love that.
Thought about cutting all my hair off last week. I usually wear it long, beause it's curly, and long is the most manageable. However, I cut it all off periodically, just to remind myself why I do not wear short hair. My daughter brought me to my senses . She is in the process of growing her hair out, and she reminded me, ever so gently (actually it was more "Are you frigging nuts!!! You'll hate it as much as me!") why this might not be in my best interests.
I do want to change my image, though. Have been reading a book on self promotion -- entitled "Self Promotion for the Creative Person" by Lee Silber. A good read -- and one of the things we are supposed to think about is the first impression we make. As a person with more pairs of pajamas than outside clothes (and that includes gardening gear), this is something I really have to take an interest in. THAT is why I've been thinking about cutting my hair. You know, start at the top and work down.
Maybe I'll just buy a couple of new pairs of pants or something. If I remember to actually wear them, it should be OK.
No, darn it! I'm going further than that! I want to have an image (that has nothing whatsoever to do with pajamas) that people will remember. Will keep you updated on this as well.
